February 25 & 26 - The last February camp for the San Francisco Renegades brought the corps out of their bay area haunts to visit lovely Roseville. Generously hosted at Granite Bay H.S., the horns and drums came together for a couple of days of incredibly intense work. With the music book nearly finished (save tweaking here and there by staff) horns, drums and pit strapped in and prepared to get to work in earnest.

The Renegades worked... hard, cleaning and fine tuning the opener and ballad. The weather was perfect on Saturday, clear and warm, as the Renegades gave an impromptu performance for the budding musicians on their dinner break. And the Renegades, in true Renegades fashion showed the younger generation just how good loud can potentially be. The evening was spent working through Toccata in it's entirety.

Though Sunday dawned grey, with rain threatening to fall, the horns and drums still took to the field for an extended marching block which ended with playing the first quarter of their opener from memory. Driven by a determination that typifies the Renegades the corps came together for a final ensemble rehearsal that left members smiling and excited about the next opportunity to rehearse as an ensemble.

Second camp of February for the Renegades = huge success!

Jim refines the opener and ballad with the horns and pit.

Kent works with the bass line to lock in the new parts.

Paul works with the snares and tenor work out the kinks of the new music.

Look... Thu can play two mallets on two instruments!

Story time with Uncle Jim... taking time to help the hornline understand the music, not just read what's on the page makes for an incredible hornline.

Mac giving one of his informative talks on the finer points of marching. The marching staff is raising the bar this year!

To the field for some marching basic... and twist to the right, and further, a little more...

Marching and playing the show from memory? Geez, it's only February... but O.K. Lets do it!

Key makes some final tweaks to the music... the master piece is almost complete!

I scream, you scream... we all scream for ice cream! Hey... no pushing!

Our first peformance of the show music this year is for a few local students and their parents.

... the audience. Ok, maybe it was more than a few.

A big thanks to Lynn for hosting us at her school this weekend!

James (the Hulk) leads the corps through the final run-thru of the weekend.
