Chris's Corner: It's Crunch Time Chris Nalls, Director
The corps is working hard to prepare for their second appearance at DCA, and the staff is very pleased with the progress. We should be able to improve on our 2002 placement, but we are mostly looking forward to performing for the great DCA crowds.
2003 also marks the return of the Renegades minicorps to
competition. In 2001, the Renegades were represented at DCA
by 22 of our members, competing in the Minicorps division.
The group took the audience by storm, winning the coveted
World Championship by over 4 points. This year's group will
be performing "Channel One Suite" at DCA's Saturday night
Individual and Ensemble extravaganza.
This past weeks we have been getting ready for DCA. Settling in to our new home at Foothill College in Los Altos, the corps got down to business, putting a new ending on the show. Based on the Matrix, and written by the entire creative team (but mostly by Ed Teleky), the ending was best described by snare drummer Dennis Mancini as, "the Renegades walking into a San Francisco techno club and entering the dance floor." It is a great way to end our show - strong, aggressive and (of course) extremely LOUD!
You'll have to see it for yourself!
Plan to join us at Foothill College for a run-through. In general,
we will perform our show at the end of each rehearsal day.
Better yet, make plans to attend our second annual Farewell
Performance. We will be performing the full field show for the
last time in California at 4pm on Sunday, August 24th. The
event is free and open to the public, and will feature
performances by the minicorps and the full corps. Plan to come
out and support the corps!
