The Renegades Association of California, the corporate entity behind the Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, has adopted new Corporate Bylaws. The new Bylaws were approved by a unanimous vote of all eligible voters who attended the Board of Directors meeting.
The new Bylaws restructure the corporation to a “Board Governance” structure, rather than the “Membership” structure under which they have been operating. This move, similar to restructuring done by both the Santa Clara Vanguard and the Concord Blue Devils, streamlines aspects of the operation of the corporation.
“This has been a long time coming, and a very welcome change” states Board Member and former Director Greg Gilman, who goes on to say: “It gives us a bit more structure that will help us grow as a corporation as well as a Drum Corps”. Echoing Mr. Gilman’s sentiments is Chief Executive Officer Jeff Pearson: “These new Byalws put us on a par with the most successful Drum & Bugle Corps organizations in the world, and I’m looking forward to working within the new Renegades structure”.
The main changes of the new, member approved, Bylaws include the changeover from a Membership based organization (where the member vote on major issues and elections), to a Board Governance based organization, where the Board assumes all responsibility for the corporation. Also included in the restructure is a new Board term of office provision, whereby the Board Directors commit to a three-year staggered term of office, whereby 2/3s of the Board is retained each year, thus ensuring business continuity.
This restructure comes after a very successful Drum Corps season, culminating in a 6th place finish at the 2011 Drum Corps Associates World Championship, held this last Labor Day weekend in Rochester, NY. The Renegades are planning on attending the 2012 DCA Championships in Annapolis, MD, where they will again compete with not only the Drum & Bugle Corps, but return to compete in the Mini-Corps competition, where they are two-time national champions.
The Renegades Association of California is a tax-exempt Non-Profit Corporation in accordance with the Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Since their inception in 1997 they have sponsored many musical groups, including the Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Renegades Mini-Corps. To find out more, please visit www.renegades.org.
