The first thing I learned about Treasure Island is how beautiful it is for rehearsal. The second thing I learned about Treasure Island is that the weather man is always wrong! No matter what the weather guys say it will always be different on TI. The sun finally came out this past weekend!! The sun brought with it lots of great new and returning guard folks!! It was wonderful to see old friends and meet the new ones as well.
Saturday started with dance class. We did all the normal stretching and warming up and then learned a combination that was great at working our minds and our bodies. Then it was equipment work time. We caught up all the new people with the warm ups and then learned a rifle routine. One of the best parts of the warm up was hearing all the rifles spinning together. This is definitely one of the most talented guards I have ever spun with. There is a vibe about us this year. I don’t know if I’ve ever been looking forward to a summer as much as this one.
Sunday, which was to be the “nice” day of the weekend started out cold, dreary and full of “heavy air” just perfect for learning drill!!! The guard flew through the pages. We were learning everything backwards which was a little tough at first but really made out brains have to work. The guard caught up and passed the rest of the corps in learning the drill.
Sunday afternoon was putting it all together. One thing that I really like this year is that it seems like all the sections are really working together. Yes we have a colorguard, a drumline and a hornline but when we’re on the field it feels like we’re all there together for a purpose. Since we are all on the same page, it’s going to be amazing what we can accomplish.
Lee said something about last year and it taking until LMS to really get the corps going. Well this year, I think we’re ahead of that by a week or so. It’s going to be an incredible summer. This is definitely going to be a Renegades season not to be missed!!
